Check compensationYour rights with Copa Airlines
Copa Airlines must follow EU261 like every other airline. If your flight arrived 3 or more hours late, was cancelled less than 14 days before departure, or you were denied boarding, you can claim compensation based on the flight distance:
| Flight distance | Compensation |
|---|---|
Up to 1,500 km e.g. Amsterdam – London | €250 |
1,500 – 3,500 km, or any flight within the EU over 1,500 km e.g. Berlin – Lisbon | €400 |
Over 3,500 km e.g. Paris – New York | €600 |
For delays, the arrival delay at your final destination must be 3 hours or more. Long-haul delays of 3–4 hours pay 50%.
Copa Airlines flights departing from the EU, EEA, Switzerland or UK are covered. Flights arriving in Europe from elsewhere are not covered, because Copa Airlines is based outside the EU and UK.
How to claim from Copa Airlines
You can claim yourself through copaair.com, or let us do it. We send the claim, deal with refusals and take Copa Airlines to court if needed, for one fee of 20% incl. VAT.
Copa Airlines compensation: common questions
How much compensation does Copa Airlines pay?
Copa Airlines pays €250, €400 or €600 per passenger depending on flight distance, as set by EU261. For flights under UK261, £220, £350 or £520.
How long does Copa Airlines take to pay?
Most airlines pay within 2 to 12 weeks of receiving a complete claim. If Copa Airlines refuses without a valid reason, we can take legal action, which takes longer but costs you nothing extra.
Can Copa Airlines refuse because of bad weather or a technical problem?
Severe weather can exempt Copa Airlines, but technical problems generally can't. Airlines sometimes give a reason that doesn't hold up; we check weather and air traffic data for your flight.
